About WebMarketCentral
WMC is a portal site providing resources for
interactive marketing professionals, including the latest web marketing and e-commerce
news, helpful
advice,
webcasts,
blog links,
career opportunities and an extensive directory of
online marketing resources.
It also features the web's most comprehensive
directory of marketing and
advertising trade publications and
calendar of marketing events.
This site was conceived,
designed, researched and developed, and is maintained by me, Tom Pick.
About Tom Pick
I’ve been a b2b marketer since 1992, focused on
research, writing, leadership and online marketing since 1996.
Today, I help clients, independently and through
B2B technology marketing and PR
firm KC Associates, increase their visibility, credibility, and
business success through interactive marketing and PR activities.
Specifically:
- I’ve helped more than 30 clients in the U.S. and
Canada—primarily technology
companies but as diverse as real estate, call centers and preschool
toys—dramatically improve their search
position and traffic through search engine optimization (SEO).
- I’ve developed, optimized and managed several
search engine marketing (SEM) campaigns that have significantly
exceeded industry average benchmarks for click-through and
conversion rates.
- I’ve created successful interactive marketing and
PR programs for clients, including online video, blogging,
podcasting, online advertising, thought leadership promotion and
social media optimization.
I’ve been writing the
WebMarketCentral online
marketing blog—which
has won several accolades including a MarketingSherpa Readers Choice
award and is ranked in the top 0.08% of all blogs tracked by Technorati—since
2005. Among the topics covered on the WMC blog are SEO, social media
optimization, online advertising and interactive PR.
I’m on a CMO Council advisory board and a member of
the Minnesota Interactive Marketing Association (MIMA). And yes, I
speak. Most recently, I presented "The 10 Ps of Successful Blogging" to
a St. Paul business group. I will be speaking on “What PR Pros Need to
Know About Social Media” at the
Blogging for Business conference in June 2008.
Trivia
I built my first Web site in 1996; it was a
competitive intelligence extranet for an enterprise software company,
which the firm's sales force dubbed "Lethal Weapon." The most gratifying
comment I ever received about it was the day I demonstrated it for a new
sales rep the company had just lured away from the largest software
company in the world, who said "I wish we'd have had something like that
at IBM."
I've been told that I look like Glenn Frey of the
Eagles, but I don't see it. (There's a better photo of me on
my blog.)
What People are Saying About

"I wanted to applaud you on creating and maintaining
such a comprehensive and helpful site."
– Marc Di Nardo, Marketing Coordinator,

"There’s a down-to-earth, good-humored brilliance in
Tom Pick’s observations. He leaves his mark of acuity and clarity on any
subject he chooses to address. My frequent take is head thrown back with
a smile. Then I go to work applying what I’ve learned."
– Allan Cox, Corporate Advisor and best-selling
business author,
AllanCox.com
"We found WebMarketCentral to be a huge asset to us
and our customers in helping them with their marketing programs. Tom's
crew has done a great job creating a destination on the web filled with
new and relevant content."
– Chuck Salvo, president,

“WebMarketCentral is a valuable resource for any
marketer leveraging the Internet to drive awareness, sales or their
overall business. The articles are spot-on and well describe the
techniques to market via the web. It’s a site you’ll want to visit
regularly to keep ahead of marketing opportunities associated with the
Internet.”
– Lee Smith, President & CEO,
Persuasive
Brands
"Your
article on how to drive
traffic to a website through content is right on target. The days of
trying to trick the search engines are over. Content is King! Thank you
for not only corroborating that fact but also providing a great list of
ideas on how to expand content. Keep up the good work!"
– Mike Kaselnak, CEO,
Hoard Client Systems Inc.
"I like what I see. WebMarketCentral is such a
valuable marketing resource that we've linked it from our intranet. I'd
rather spend a Sunday afternoon surfing WebMarketCentral than watching
the Minnesota Vikings play."
– Mark Palony, Marketing Manager,
SoftBrands Inc.
"Tom Pick and company at WebMarketCentral have some
good stuff cooking at their
portal site for
marketing professionals. WebMarketCentral is striving to find, assemble
and present the best of online marketing –
in one convenient place. So far, in my estimation, they've done that ...
and then some."
– Skip
Lineberg, Partner, Maple Creative
"A BIG thanks for the article on how to craft an
ad agency RFP. What you might not know is the number of times
prospective clients ask US to give them a format for an RFP. From now on
I'll send them the link to your site. The site is impressive overall,
and I'm passing it along as a resource to others."
– Neal Kielar,
Account Executive, Yamamoto Moss
"Allow me to recommend Tom Pick's blog to you:
The
WebMarketCentral Blog. Trying to think how to describe it accurately
I came up with this: Thought. There's a lot of thought that goes into
this blog – interviews, rants, and just some
thoughtful ruminations on marketing issues."
– Sarah Eaton, BeTuitive Marketing
“WebMarketCentral.com is a valuable
resource for anyone responsible for getting a story told, a position
articulated, and a brand established."
– Albert Maruggi, CEO,
Provident Partners
"Thanks to
MarketingSherpa's recent blog and podcast awards, I've gotten to
know about some more great sites related to online business. I liked the
runners up more than the winners – they seemed to contain more helpful
information and less blogspeak. Take a look at
WebMarketCentral, and
StartUp Nation, both chock-full of actionable info.
– Ana
Rincon, About.com Guide to Online Business / Hosting
"WebMarketCentral provides a growing portal to
resources that help bring a lot of these elements –
networking, site traffic-building, and converting site traffic to
customers – together. Tom Pick bears a
strange resemblance to Glenn Frey, even if he can't see it himself."
– Shawn Hessinger,
